Services

Phoenix Computers acts as a single source for your entire IT procurement portfolio. Our strategic alliances with key vendors helps Phoenix to create economical leverage for our customers.  This is coupled with a streamlined logistics capability and industry accredited technical support, all of which have contributed to Phoenix becoming recognised as one of the UK’s premier Information Technology resellers.

All our customers are allocated a dedicated account manager who is responsible for all the activities, whether they be day-to-day issues or long-term strategic planning, on behalf of their customers to ensure rapid decision making and greater flexibility for the customer.

Account managers are responsible for controlling all aspects of the account and will produce pre-agreed customer performance reports on specified dates incorporating information related to all commercial activities.

This reporting procedure will ensure that customers are extremely well informed about all areas of their IT procurement and support through Phoenix and thus ensuring informed decisions can be taken.

Individual account managers are supported by an industry-related internal team which is totally familiar with your business requirements including your preferred product sets, service level agreements and special pricing structures.

In addition to the dedicated account managers and your internal support team, customers have the opportunity of using our e-trader e-procurement solution which provides real time stock availability on 86,000 IT products, specific contract pricing and management information allowing customers to create quotations and orders in seconds.

A Single Provider For all Your Technology

Phoenix has developed strong relationships with a comprehensive range of IT vendors from focused specialist suppliers to world class leading manufacturers, all of which have acknowledged Phoenix through accreditation programs.  With over 86,000 product lines from 1,700 different suppliers, Phoenix can provide access to the widest portfolio of Information Technology products in the UK from one single source through our e-trader solution or through our sales structure thus providing a managed desk to door 24 hour procurement channel.

Reducing the cost of technology procurement.

It is sometimes difficult to negotiate the best price for new technology when purchasing relatively low volumes.  Due to the strategic contracts and key vendor status of Phoenix we ensure that through economies of scale we leverage highly competitive prices. In addition to reducing the direct costs, Phoenix also incorporates many free services to secure a long-term partnership with our customers, for example, hardware and software configuration and customer specific image creation.

Ensuring Your Technology Purchases are fit for the purpose

Phoenix can provide you with a comprehensive knowledge pool and access to expert multi vendor skills and experience.  This pre sales and technical support ensures that the products supplied are appropriate for the purpose and are capable of integrating into your current infrastructure.  To support this philosophy we have invested in providing our customers with customised configuration and system imaging services to optimise the technical performance of the product and assist in the smooth deployment of the equipment.

Supporting and creating controlled system procurement

Many IT and purchasing departments have to overcome the challenges of devolved budgets and thus standardising on specific technologies across an organisation can be difficult.  Phoenix works with the IT and purchasing departments to create a standard IT procurement portfolio for the whole organisation with due consideration for specific departmental requirements.  This process helps streamline all aspects of the supply and support chain within the organisation and can deliver cost savings due to elimination of add hoc off contract purchases and reduces support costs of the user -base.

Streamlining Your Information Technology Purchasing

Phoenix’s state of the art e-procurement solution, e-trader has been developed to revolutionise IT procurement by simplifying the process of acquiring new equipment.

E-trader incorporates special agreed customer specific pricing for each organisation together with real time stock availability on 86,000 IT products.  This solution is revolutionising IT procurement in many organisations and provides the ability to create on-line quotations or orders in seconds in conjunction with management information related to historical purchasing data that provides a clear real time vision of purchasing activity within an organisation.  Our leading solution provides for different user levels thus allowing all staff in an organisation to create a basket to forward onto an authorised purchaser to approve, amend or cancel the basket before ordering.  This process creates significant time savings for the purchaser and eliminates telephone order request calls as the e-trader system emails updates to the internal customer and the purchaser confirming request or order status.

Hardware, Software, Imaging

& Deployment Services

Phoenix offers a bespoke customer specific hardware and software configuration service.  This free of charge service ensures you receive the preferred hardware configuration for your equipment along with your organisations current software image.

The Process

Our technical department will supply a system with your preferred hardware configuration for you to test.  From this a working network image is created.  If you require help in creating your new image then our highly trained technical staff, who are certified and authorised by the major hardware and software suppliers will assist with this process at your location until you are happy with the configuration.  Our engineer will then return to the Phoenix technical centre and create a test system and then return the next day to your location for you to test the system in your environment and confirm your approval before we build your new systems.  Once you have approved the build the engineer returns to our configuration centre where your image is given a specific naming convention and loaded onto our configuration servers.  As your images change so does the naming convention and as such we have a historical record of your images, which is a major benefit with regard to possible future maintenance issues.  Our build and configuration centre can process 500 systems per day.  On completion of the builds a customer specific label is produced, usually incorporating the Mac address, Asset number, Location, User Name and Date.  The systems can then be despatched to site as a whole order or stored and called off to meet your project timescales.

The above process takes two days but ensures the following benefits –

  • Network ready fully configured and tested systems.
  • ZERO Dead on Arrival systems.
  • Managed Implementation.
  • Serial Number and Asset tracking.
  • Historical Images stored.
  • Field service customer specific recovery kits.
  • Storage.
  • Desktop delivery and removal of packaging.
  • Management information.

The end result is a plug and play solution custom tailored to meet the needs of each customer.

This Service Applies to the following equipment –

  • PCs
  • Laptops
  • Severs (Novell, Microsoft, Unix)

This service is also used by many public sector organisations that have strong historic relationships with Phoenix and these customers have recognised that this partnership approach greatly assists their IT departments in respect to deployment and support.

Phoenix have extensive experience and a proven track record with regard to this service and are subcontracted by the number one manufacturer in the world to deliver this service on their behalf.

Asset Management & Security Options

Phoenix provide a comprehensive Asset management service which is designed to help customers track the life cycle of the product within their organisation.

How does it work?

Your dedicated Phoenix Account Manager would visit your organisation to agree the preferred procedures related to the tagging of hardware products and the electronic documentation required to enable effective control of your assets.  This service is designed to integrate with your existing methods of control.

After the initial meeting the agreed procedures would be implemented and all hardware products purchased through Phoenix would be Asset tagged with your customer specific label and a unique Asset Number.

This information would then be entered in to the Asset Database together with your preferred information e.g. Location, Serial Number, Specification, your order Number, Date etc.  This document would be forwarded to you on agreed dates so you could update your records.

Many of the customers using the service have not only found it of benefit in assisting them with audit requirements but also depreciation managment and budget forecasting.

Phoenix also offer this service on your existing hardware platform.  A project team is deployed to your location for an agreed period to bring your Asset base information and tagging up to date.  This service has been utalised by organisations who have been stretch by there day to day department demands and there asset management has become out of date.

This service has proved very popular as an effective means of helping to control the implementation of new Assets to your hardware platform.

Asset tags can be applied to your specification prior to shipping.  We can also supply lists that identify which serial numbers have been assigned to your asset numbers, ready for you to plug into your asset management system.

Many of our customers also take advantage of our Security Marking service by supplying us with their preferred security tags.  These services are particularly useful in large rollouts, greatly simplifying the process of your installation team.

Corporate Branding

Your company colours, name, logo, slogan or whatever you want can now be colour imaged permanently on the lid of your notebooks or PDAs.  As well as a great way of advertising your organisation this is a very effective theft deterrent as the branding is un-removable.

This process is achieved through very thin multiple layers of special colouring material, this is a permanent coating process and not a transfer.  Once this process has been carried out it cannot be removed.

There are two main benefits to this service:

  • Effective Theft Deterrent: If the notebook is clearly marked with your company's logo or name.
  • Effective Corporate Branding Media: As well as safeguarding your notebook you can also advertise your Organisation to prospective customers.

For further information regarding this service please submit the electronic form

Our account managers can then provide you with a personal overview and examples of this service.

Phoenix has been working in partnership with one of only two UK companies that hold the full accreditations and licence approvals for the transport and recycling of Electronic waste. We undertake complete project management for our customers which often involves the on-site decommissioning, collecting of material, transporting and subsequent breakdown in-house prior to recycling. We also offer a security service for material which is non-recyclable or of a confidential nature.

Phoenix has also been working closely with some of our Education customers to design a managed process for the approved disposal and recycling of electronic equipment which involves agreed collection points on agreed dates.

Running parallel to the above project, Phoenix is working in partnership with a leading member of a regional consortium to meet the challenges related to the WEEE directive, ensuring full compliance procedures and processes are in place when the directive becomes law (see white papers for further information regarding the WEEE directive).

Below is a breakdown of how component materials are processed:

Component Materials
The variety of materials processed so far can be categorised into mainly plastic metal cabinets, printed circuit boards, steel and non-ferrous metal, glass VDU tubes, batteries, transformers and power cabling and connectors.

Plastics
The recycling of plastic waste is very much a developing market although residual values are very low. The plastic can be sorted into different categories of material, easily identifiable, and must be totally clean ie no metal, paper or foam attached.

The plastic can be stripped, unwanted materials removed and granulated into smaller pieces. The materials can then be sold to either merchants or direct to the processors, who extrude the materials into bead form for injection moulding as garden furniture, tool handles, plastic trays and buckets, lighting etc. However the cost is higher in terms of labour and processing.

Cabling
Recovered cable is sorted and graded prior to shredding, granulating and air classifying. Current copper prices are reasonably stable and realistic returns are being achieved, subject to the market fluctuations.

Small transformers are smelted separately by specialist copper refining.

Batteries
Lead acid batteries can be processed and refined and may not incur recycling costs. Ni-cad and lithium batteries are more costly to dispose of through a specialist disposal route, as they are a designated special waste.

Waste
All waste is dealt with from a fully licensed site and all residual waste is disposed of within the environmental guidelines through a transfer station.

VDU Screens
The tubes of most computer screens contain a variety of different substances, including Phosphor, Arsenic and Strontium, which means that the glass, when granulated, has to have the contaminates washed out in a solution which is then neutralised. The crushed glass is unsuitable for mainstream glass container manufacture; some can be used in decorative ceramics and concrete mixtures, although the processing costs are not recouped by the value of material when sold. Alternatively, the clean glass can be crushed and milled and used as bedding sand in toxic incinerators.

Work has been done with the British Glass Federation and Sheffield University to establish new routes and applications for recycling the materials. There is a cost for the disposal of screens, which varies according to the amount of material for recycling, and the route for which the customer chooses to pay. VDU/CRTs need to have the glass separated from the plastic and metal for it to be suitable for any alternative use. Our unique CRT shredding plant allows us to recover the glass separately from the plastics; all other metals are recovered for recycling.

It is our opinion that from July 2002, the new landfill directive and hazardous waste regulations will prohibit land filling from untreated monitors.

Printed Circuit Boards
Most PCBs, especially those of some age, have a residual value from the reclaiming of metal they contain, or the recovery of re-usable memory chips. We have processed material that has had both high and low grade recovery properties, with the values varying from 25p up to ?10.00 per kilo. The value of recovered chips also varies considerably and unless the minimum price of 30p is achievable, the labour cost of removing them is prohibitive.

Other Metals
Steel and non-ferrous metals are stripped from the old components and sorted. Steel scrap becomes a valuable raw material feeding the demand of local steel producers. The report will also detail exactly what has happened to the various elements, so customers can see precisely the weight and the value of the waste, recycling the materials and the re-sale of the goods.

Associated Accreditations
Phoenix is a member of the Industry Council for Electronic Equipment Recycling and one of only three ICER accredited recyclers.

Insurance

Phoenix offers a comprehensive range of insurance solutions, which have become very popular due to the increased investment organisations have made in their IT hardware.

Phoenix offers the opportunity of insuring your valuable desktop and notebook computer equipment against the cost of expensive repairs or replacement in the event of accident or theft.

The Phoenix Desktop Insurance Program was introduced because historically insurance policies of large organisations covered the whole of the organisation's asset base ranging from computers to cars and buildings.  As a result, the high insurance excess's made it un-economical to insure computer hardware and has meant organisations often carried the total cost of losses related to these products in the event of an accident or theft.

The desktop insurance program overwrites these issues and for a fixed unit cost your investment will be comprehensively insured against accidental damage and theft.

The portable insurance program is designed to protect the users who take portable computers outside of protected environments where the risk of theft and damage is higher.

You can secure your notebook computer or PDA with one of a range of Phoenix specialist all risks insurance policies.

Phoenix IT Leasing

The Benefits of Leasing

There are two different ways to lease IT products; Lease Rental and Lease Purchase.

Lease Rental means you pay a monthly/quarterly rental fee in advance for three or five years subject to your preferred term.  Lease Rental actually means you never own the equipment and at the end of the term your Phoenix account manager will contact you and ask if you wish to extend the life of the current equipment or replace it with new equipment.  Although most companies using this facility often replace the equipment at the end of the term. You can simple terminate the agreement at this stage.

The second option is a Lease Purchase which effectively works in the same way as the lease rental option but at the end of your term you will own the asset.

Both of the above options allows you to add products to your current agreement over the entire term and the regular payment is aligned to the current contract period or extended.

Through Phoenix you are able to lease not only hardware but also software and services.  For example, enhanced maintenance installation and support for the duration of the agreement would be incorporated in your regular fee.

You can also lease your existing equipment through a re-capitalisation program.

The core Benefits of Leasing -

You can lease new equipment and you pay a monthly/quarterly price over 3/5 years at which time the products ??????Leasing protects against obsolescence.

Technology products frequently become obsolete before they can be fully depreciated.  That means you either have to take a book loss on the equipment or carry a 'stranded asset' on the books.  Leasing allows you to take advantage of the latest technology available while giving you the flexibility to make changes and additions when needed.  Leasing protects you from the risk of technological obsolescence because the leasing company assumes that risk for you.  You get all the benefits of using the equipment without having to worry about what to do with it when it is out of date.

Leasing simplifies budget approval.

Leasing can be categorised as operating expenses.  That means it's usually much easier to attain approval to lease equipment, rather than purchase it, because operating expenses generally require a much lower level of approval (department level vs. corporate) than purchases.

Leasing can allow for off-balance-sheet financing.

As long as your lease passes the FASB 13 test for operating lease treatment, the lease commitment and corresponding assets won't have to be included on your company's balance sheet.  This can improve your financial ratios, showing the company to be more profitable with more liquid assets.

Leasing reduces up-front costs.

Conventional bank financing typically requires a minimum balance.  With leasing, there is no minimum balance or down payment required.

Leasing makes cash flow more predictable.

Leasing generally sets fixed payments for the term of a leasing contract, whereas a loan often has a variable interest rate.  Thus, leasing makes it easier to manage and anticipate cash flow.

Leasing preserves working capital.

Leasing expands your company's financial resources without affecting established credit lines.  A helpful rule of thumb is to buy only assets that appreciate, and lease those that depreciate.  Why buy an asset that has limited life, when you could lease it, and invest your available cash in assets that will appreciate in value.  When you lease, you get full access to the equipment you need for your business, and you only pay for the portion of the asset that you use rather than the entire asset.  Leasing offers tax advantages.  Many companies realise significant tax benefits from leasing their technology.  Monthly lease payments are generally tax deductible and can be treated as a business expense.  Consult your accountant or tax advisor for specific details on this important benefit.

Leasing gives you the ultimate financial flexibility.

With leasing it is possible to structure the terms and length of the contract to fit your business requirements, and you can upgrade the equipment or add additional components to certain types of lease.  When the lease ends, you can choose to return or buy the asset, or to renew the lease for another term.  Leasing is the least restrictive, most flexible financing alternative, and gives you the freedom to make changes and choices that suit your needs.

We have great please in announcing our PHOENIX ULTRACLEAN Service is available from today to you.

What does the Ultraclean Service offer that's different?

The Ultraclean service has taken the WEEE Directive and used this as a framework to build upon. The WEEE directive will specify that manufactures must take back their own equipment.

The PHOENIX Ultraclean service will recover anyone's equipment regardless of age and condition.

The Service will also recover additional IT equipment not originally sold by PHOENIX. This includes but is not limited to printers, fax machines, projectors, network equipment etc. (If you have any doubts about this service please do not hesitate to contact PHOENIX for clarification)

These two points make PHOENIX unique and reinforce our commitment to providing value added services that support our client’s needs. And if that is not enough PHOENIX has the great pleasure in announcing that this service is FREE to you.

What do I need to do be able to use this service?

All you need to do is;

  • Once the collection form is completed we will arrange a collection date within 4-5 working days.
  • When the goods have been collected and treated, we will issue documentation for your records.
  • Phoenix will collect the equipment using our own vehicles which are all ISO waste transport certified.
